Resident. National scarce B. Found in much of the southern half of England, southern Scotland and parts of Wales.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2022 at Cemmaes, in the far west of the county. Only the fourth record for north Wales.

Wingspan :  M & F, 18-26mm.

Red-belted Clearwing, Large Red-belted Clearwing.

Anywhere the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Willows.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a part grown larva living in the trunks, branches & stems. Larva: August - May. Pupates at feeding site.
